Real Betis came from behind to beat Celta de Vigo 2-1 at the Estadio Benito Villamarin on Friday evening.
Celta’s Maxi Gomez opened the scoring but Betis bounced back thanks to goals from Sergio Leon and Zouhair Feddal to pick up their first points of the season.
The opening goal came after 10 minutes when Daniel Wass put an out swinging corner towards the back post. Celta’s Uruguayan striker, Gomez met the cross with a header that took a deflection off Victor Camarasa which put the ball past Antonio Adan in the Betis goal.
The hosts levelled on 31 minutes when their Mexican midfielder Andres Guardado picked the ball up on the left wing. Guardado’s cross was sublime and Leon was equal to it with the striker leaping up at the back post to head home.
After half time both teams continued to look for another goal with Betis going close when Joaquin found Guardado in the box but his backward header was turned away by Sergio Alvarez.
On 77 minutes the home side finally took the lead. Guardado was again the creator when he received a short corner before crossing into the penalty area. Feddal rose highest of all the players in the area and powered his header into the net to score the goal that ultimately handed the victory to Real Betis.
With the international break now it will be two weeks before the sides are back in action with Celta playing host to Alaves and Betis travelling to take on struggling Villarreal.
