Real Sociedad president Jokin Appreibay has confirmed that the future of Geronimo Rulli is not yet known.
The talented Argentine keeper has been gaining interest from a number of top European clubs, with Italian side Napoli at the forefront of that interest.
The 25-year-old joined La Real last season on a permanent deal from Manchester City but the English club do hold a buy-back clause, which they have been interested to use this summer.
Quizzed on his future last month, the keeper said that he wanted to remain with the Basque club.
“Real Sociedad is my home and I’m challenging for a place at the World Cup. If Argentina qualify, it’ll be a great opportunity for me. I have Russia 2018 in my mind.”
However, with interest increasing once again from Naples, it has left Apperibay apprehensive about the stopper’s future.
“Are there negotiations underway with Napoli?” Aperribay said to Italian media source iamnaples.it.
“Yes, but it’s very complicated, especially given the timing. We’ll see how the negotiations go, it’s a very complicated operation.”
Apperibay then answered questions on the possibility of Paris Saint Germain keeper Alphonse Areola replacing Rulli at the Anoeta.
“Could Alphonse Areola be a possible replacement? Let’s see how the discussions go between the clubs involved.”
Real Sociedad have enjoyed a superb start to the new La Liga season, beating Celta Vigo 3-2 on the opening day and more impressively – thumping Villarreal 3-0 at the weekend.
