Espanyol desperate to sign Darder

Espanyol have moved fast to being negotiations for Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Sergi Darder, according to reports.

RMC Sport claim that the Barcelona based side have taken advantage of Lyon’s decision to sell some of their biggest earners and believe Darder will add extra ability to their midfield.

The 23-year-old joined Les Gones in 2015 and has featured no less than 73 times, however, despite his presence – the signing of Spanish midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop from Celta Vigo has thrown his starting place into doubt.

Espanyol believe they will now sign the midfielder with Darder himself keen on a return to La Liga, where he spent time with Andalusian side Malaga.

Quique Sanchez Flores’ side have had an indifferent summer, allowing the likes of Felipe Caicedo, Mamadou Sylla and Joan Jordan all leave.

Whilst, they have added Naldo, Mario Hermoso and seen Sergio Garcia return to the club – whom Flores will be hoping to help them this season after a fairly slow start to the season.

The opening day for Espanyol saw them hold Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan but a 1-0 defeat to Leganes has ill-prepared them for a trip across the city to rivals Barcelona after the international break on September 9th.
