Arsenal’s Lucas Perez to join Deportivo on loanAugust 30, 2017
Deportivo La Coruna are set to seal the signing of Lucas Perez from Arsenal on an initial loan deal.
Having left the Galician side for Arsenal last summer, Perez found playing time hard to come by under Arsene Wenger, despite the Frenchman’s admiration of his ability and season prior to the move, where he scored an impressive 17 goals in 37 games.
Just 11 appearances in the Premier League have seen he Spaniard looking to leave, and with the arrival of French striker Alexandre Lacazette from Olympique Lyonnais at the Emirates, Perez has talked of his poor treatment.
Speaking with La Voz de Galicia two weeks ago, Perez discussed his time at the North London club and his frustrations – which included having the number nine shirt taken from him and given to Lacazette.
Reports in Spanish press claimed Depor had offered the striker a 10-year contract to return to the Riazor but further reports saw him linked with a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce.
And, having submitted their interest, Depor lodged an improved offer of €12m offer for the 28-year-old, which was initially rejected but it is now understood that a one-year loan deal, prior to a permanent deal is close.
Perez began his playing career with Atletico Madrid, before spells with Rayo Vallecano, Dinamo Kiev and PAOK.
During his time with Deportivo, he scored an impressive 24 goals in 59 games.
