Diego Costa’s move to Atletico Madrid from Chelsea in a deal worth £41m now looks in doubt, according to reports.
Even when the Premier League season was in full flow – Brazilian born Spanish international Costa was linked with a summer return to Atletico Madrid.
Whilst it is certain of both Costa and Atleti’s desire to re-unite – a move has been hard to materialise with the Spanish club’s transfer ban causing problems.
A six month loan move to Serie A side AC Milan had been mentioned but it is now understood that Costa is happy to train with the club and wait until January to make his debut.
And, whilst a deal worth £41m was said to have been agreed by all parties earlier this week – it is now being claimed that no deal has been discussed.
Having not returned to training with current club Chelsea, Costa has remained in Brazil with his family and been fined by the English side.
The 28-year-old scored 20 Premier League goals last season, but the arrival of former Juventus and Real Madrid man Alvaro Morata pushed his starting place to one side.
Costa is desperate to return to Atleti as he looks to be part of Spain’s 2018 World Cup squad next summer.
