Reports from Cadena COPE claim that Barcelona could launch a shocking deadline day move to bring Mesut Ozil to the Camp Nou as they look for alternatives to Philippe Coutinho as Liverpool still refuse to sell.
After making an enquiry, Arsenal responded by telling the Catalan club that Ozil would cost €60 million. His contract will expire in 10 months time, when he would be available on a free transfer, with Barcelona able to negotiate a deal with him from January.
Given Ozil’s history at Real Madrid, it may be a surprise to see the German linked. Since his departure from Madrid, he has failed to convince at the Emirates with inconsistent form of late.
However, there is little doubting his quality and vision on the ball. For that reason, Ernesto Valverde may see him as a potential successor to Andres Iniesta in midfield.
His former team-mate, Angel Di Maria, has also been linked, whilst the club are still holding out a very faint hope that Liverpool will reconsider their stance on Philippe Coutinho.
If not, Ousmane Dembele and Paulinho will remain the only players to join the club after the departure of Neymar, with Nelson Semedo and Gerard Deulofeu having been signed earlier this summer.
