Asier Garitano has congratulated Getafe on their 2-1 win over his Leganes side on Friday evening at Butarque.
The Madrid sides, who are based in the South of the Spanish capital had never met in La Liga before, until Friday’s game at Butarque and it lived up to it’s billing with two excelletn strikes from the visitors.
Heading into the tie, the home side were in buoyant mood, having started the season well with two 1-0 wins coming over Espanyol and Alaves, whilst Getafe had begun with one point, holding Athletic Bilbao to a 0-0 draw on the opening day, before losing 1-0 to Sevilla.
After a lively start from both sides, it was the visitors who struck first thanks to a goal of sheer brilliance Uruguayan Mauro Arambarri.
His goal would see the away side head into the changing room in front but a good response from the home side saw them level just after the hour mark when Miguel Angel Guerrero struck.
Just as the game looked to be heading for a draw – up stepped Alvaro Jimenez to score a superb goal and grab all the bragging rights.
Having watched his side almost get back in the game, Garitano spoke on the action.
“We are said, but this is part of football, we have lost to our rival.” he said to reporters following the game.
“Their goalkeeper made two good saves, and when you miss like that – your mood can change, that is football.
“I congratulate Getafe and must stress to my players that we must keep working.
“We have been improving in the league and I thought we were better in the second half tonight.”
Finally, the former striker said that the fans “deserve to see the derby every year.”
