Pepe Mel has acknowledged that his Real Betis side ‘started to run out of gas’ as they lost 4-2 to Real Sociedad on Sunday afternoon.
The game started well for the visitors as a double from Juanmi gave them a 2-0 lead as early as the third and fourth minute.
Depor were stunned but they did well to react and claw their back into the game as Adrian Lopez struck just before the hour mark.
With the game sitting at 2-1 to the visitors at the break, Pepe Mel’s side came out fighting and got themselves back level through Florian Andone, who profited from some great Adrian work.
With the game heading for a draw, a mad final ten minutes ensued as Sociedad took full advantage of some poor defending to take the lead through second half substitute Diego Llorente.
And, they would grab one more before full time as Asier Illaramendi netted with four minutes left to play on the clock.
“In the 70th minute we started to run out of gas after a superb effort,” Mel explained to reporters.
“It is obvious that the game started badly for us, but we did the hard work and got back on level terms.”
Three wins out of three now for Sociedad sees them the only side to sit level with Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table, whilst Depor sit 14th and have failed to win so far this season.
