Sevilla boss Eduardo Berizzo has warned his players that Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their 5-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were heavily beaten by City on Saturday morning, seeing forward Mane sent off in the process and Berizzo believes that the English side will be looking to bounce back and send a message not only to their European opposition – but to English clubs too.
Having watched the game against City, Berizzo is also fully aware that Philippe Coutinho is expected to make his first competitive start of the season and he has warned his players to produce a similar performance to the 3-0 win over Eibar at the weekend.
“Liverpool’s heavy defeat to City? It should be noted that they played with a man less for an hour away from home, ” he told reporters.
“They’re a great team and that defeat doesn’t take anything away from them. Moreover, they’ll be wounded.”
Speaking on the victory against Eibar, which sees his side now have seven points from a possible nine – the Argentine coach praised his side’s commitment following the international break.
“It was a good performance from the team. I wasn’t disappointed by our lack of accuracy in the first half.
“The early goal from Ganso in the second half gave us control of the match. It was a performance that strengthened us and let us draw positives. We controlled an uncomfortable rival.
“The 15-day break for internationals did us good. Sarabia’s performance was outstanding, he played in a position where he gave defensive guarantees and helped the team play very fluently. He’s a talented and generous player.”
The teams face off at Anfield on Wedneday evening at 7.45 GMT, whilst the other Group E game sees Maribor take on Spartak Moscow.
