Europa League Preview: Hertha Berlin (Athletic Bilbao, Group J)

Athletic Club face Hertha Berlin in their first Europa League group game and Kristofer McCormack spoke to @HerthaBerlinUK about the German side chances this year.

Tell us a bit about Hertha Berlin?

Play at the Olympiastadion in Berlin – hertha Berliner Sport Club (Hertha BSC). Nicknamed ‘the old lady’ or ‘die alte dame’. Founded 1892. Named after a steam ship.

How long have you been a Hertha Berlin fan?

We’ve been following since 2010. There’s a group of us who head over regularly for games home and away.

How did Hertha Berlin qualify for the Europa League group stages?

Qualified by default. It was only due to frieburgs loss in the cup that they took out a qualifying place and we went straight into group stages.

What was your initial reaction to the group stage draws? What are your predictions?

Would’ve been nice to get a big team like Arsenal or AC Milan but we should qualify from the group. Bilbao will be the hardest game I think, maybe 2 draws there would be good results against them. We haven’t played them recently and I’d be hard pushed to tell you the last time we played!

How will Hertha set up against Athletic Club? Who do you think the Hertha coach will be most worried about?

Aduriz is their main man and will be dangerous, I think we’ll go 5-3-2 against them with 2 wing backs!
