Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has been accused of racially abusing Levante’s Jefferson Lerma during last weekend’s game, according to reports in Spanish press.
Madrid and Levante played out a 1-1 draw the Bernabeu last weekend in a game which saw Marcelo sent off for kicking out at Colombian midfielder Lerma and subsequently banned for one match.
Television cameras have now picked up on full-back Carvajal shouting a series of insults at the Levante man following the incident, which included the term ‘monkey’, according to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo.
Another Spanish media outlet – El Pilon, claim that La Liga are now likely to open an investigation into the incident and potentially charge Carvajal, despite the comments made by the Spanish international not appearing in the referee’s official match report.
According to Football Espana and other media sources, two more games – Barcelona v Espanyol and Leganes v Getafe are also under investigation for alleged racial abuse, although no further details on who those abusive comments were aimed at or handed out by have emerged.
Madrid bounced back from that draw with Levante with a 3-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday evening, whilst the Valencian based side drew with neighbours Valencia on Saturday morning.
