Lionel Messi four goals as Barcelona secured a fifth straight win in La Liga, beating Eibar 6-1 at Camp Nou on Wednesday evening.
Ernesto Valverde’s side approached Tuesday’s game having won four out of four La Liga games and they ensured a fifth straight victory with six goals against their visitors – Eibar.
Messi, who has been in sensational form this season was on hand to give the Catalan side the lead, converting from the penalty spot.
Brazilian midfielder Paulinho would make it 2-0 with a well placed header, before Denis Suarez also got on the scoresheet in the second half.
Sergi Enrich did give the visitors something to celebrate as he finished a well organised move, but his goal would not force a comeback as Messi added three more to further consolidate Barca’s lead at the top of the table.
The win means Barcelona are top with 15 points, five clear of second-placed Sevilla but having played a game more.
Meanwhile, former West Ham striker Simone Zaza scored a hat-trick inside nine minutes as Valencia beat Malaga 5-0, with Rodrigo and Santi Mina also getting on the scoresheet.
Valencia move up to third in La Liga, six points behind Barcelona, whilst Malaga sit rock bottom of the table, having not gained a single point so far this season.
