Villarreal were held to a goalless draw by Espanyol ending their run of two successive wins.
Heading into the game, the Yellow Submarine had won their last two games after losing in their opening matches of the new season.
But, despite having more of the ball against Quique Sanchez Flores’ side – they failed to break the deadlock with 14 shots in total.
The visitors did give it a go, having 10 shots of their own but none of those troubled the Villarreal back-line.
The result sees Villarreal move up to eighth and Espanyol, sit in 16th position.
Elsewhere, Angel Luis Rodriguez Diaz saved a point for Getafe with a late effort at Celta Vigo as the game finished 1-1 on Thursday evening.
Uruguayan striker Maxi Gomez has been lighting up La Liga since his arrival at Balaidos this summer and he continued his fine form with another strike on the 25th minute to give the home side the lead.
However, Diaz would score with just four minutes remaining on the click to rescue a draw for the newly-promoted side.
For Levante, defender Chema scored a superb effort in their 3-0 win over Real Sociedad, who had Diego Llorente sent off late on to compound their miserable run of two defeats on the bounce.
