Diego Simeone has urged his team-mates to remain ‘united’ after a good start to the season.
Simeone was talking after his side’s 2-0 victory over Sevilla, which saw them move above the Andalusian side into second place.
Belgian forward Yannick Carrasco was outstanding throughout the game and he gave the home side the lead when he rounded the Sevilla keeper before tapping home.
Costa’s potential strike partner Antoine Griezmann would be next to get on the score-sheet, smashing home from close range.
Atletico, now sit four points behind Barcelona, who they meet after the upcoming international break in October and Simeone has called on his side to remain ‘united’ amidst questions on his current rotation policy.
“If we all unite, we’ll be on the right path, ” he told reporters after Saturday’s game at the Wanda Metropolitano.
“There’s a lot of competition here, and that’s good for the club and them. That’s the way it’ll be if everyone understands this.
“Successful rotations? The challenge we have within the club is to acknowledge no-one is more important than the team, that the most important thing is the collective.”
Diego Costa was in attendance as his new side beat Sevilla and Simeone chose to discuss about his unveiling as an Atleti player.
“Costa’s unveiling? I’m very respectful about the times put forward by Atletico and Chelsea.
“It makes us very happy that a player of his quality wants to come here. Making it official doesn’t depend on us.
Chelsea striker Costa has not trained or played so far this season for the Premier League side having spent time away from the club in his native Brazil.”
Following heavy talks, the Spanish international is set to rejoin Atleti in January when their transfer ban comes to an end, and he would of been pleased with what he saw of Simeone’s side.
