Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has re-affirmed his belief in his squad and the plans they have for the season.
The French coach was speaking ahead of Madrid’s trip to Germany on Tuesday evening where they face Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park.
The reigning La Liga and European champions have had a rather stuttering start to the new season, having failed to gain a league win at the Bernabeu and finding themselves sitting in sixth place, seven points behind rivals Barcelona.
Zidane, who said after the weekend 2-1 victory over Alaves that his side ‘were not brilliant’ has now backed his squad and their ability.
“We are good. We arrive on the back of a victory and we are happy to be able to play in the Champions League. We are fully prepared for the game,” he told reporters upon arrival in Germany.
“Every game can be a turning point and every three days we have to show it. This is another game, another competition and we want to play well. We are confident in what we are doing.”
Having sealed a second successive Champions League title last season and the club’s 12th – Zidane was questioned on whether he believed they could repeat that this season.
“We know we have to prove it once again, it is not going to be easy but we want to have a go at the challenge. We want to go as far as possible. Firstly, we must pass the group stages and then we go from there.”
Marcelo, Theo Hernandez, Jesus Vallejo, Mateo Kovacic and Karim Benzema will all miss tonight’s game, but Toni Kroos is likely to return.
Whilst, youngsters Luca Zidane and Alvaro Tejero have been included.
Real Madrid squad: Navas, Casilla, Luca Zidane, Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Varane, Nacho, Achraf, Tejero, Kroos, Modric, Casemiro, Llorente, Asensio, Isco, Ceballos, Ronaldo, Bale, Lucas Vazquez, Mayoral.
Madrid beat Apoel Nicosia 3-0 in their opening match while Dortmund lost to Tottenham Hotspur.
