Manchester United have been given fresh hope that they can sign Antoine Griezmann in the January transfer window, according to various reports.
The French international has been in sublime form for Atletico Madrid in recent seasons and has returned from suspension of late to help Diego Simeone’s side push league leaders Barcelona.
Linked with a summer move to United – the former Real Sociedad man stayed put after Atleti received a transfer ban from FIFA over the signings of academy players.
United who maintained their interest turned their focus to Romelu Lukaka, securing a deal for the Belgian striker from Everton at the end of the transfer window.
Reports in Spain have now claimed that the signing of Diego Costa from Chelsea to the Wanda Metropolitano has seen Griezmann become available.
Spanish daily AS believe that club officials are considering cashing in on the French forward, who currently has a release clause of around 100m euros.
The report goes on to claim that United will now make a formal offer ahead of a proposed move in the summer of 2018.
Griezmann, who has scored an impressive 86 goals in 166 appearances for Simeone’s side, has also been linked with Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona, Juventus and Chelsea.
