Uncertainty surrounds Dani Carvajal’s heart condition

Real Madrid are uncertain of the wellness and future availbility of Dani Carvajal after he was diagnosed with a heart condition.

News filtered out of the Bernabeu last week that the Spanish international had been diagnosed with a viral infection that was affecting his heart, therefore seeing him ruled out of action – indefinitely.

Achraf Hakimi was handed his first team debut by Zinedine Zidane in the 2-0 win over Espanyol, whilst the club waited on further reports and diagnosis from doctors.

It still remains unclear how long the full-back will be out for with Spanish daily Marca reporting that Madrid are ‘extremely concerned’ by the problem.

A short statement by the reigning La Liga champions read: “Following tests carried out on Dani Carvajal, he has been diagnosed with a viral pericardium infection.

“His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

Carvajal, who has established himself as a first choice defender at the club, signed a new contract last month, committing him to the club until 2022.

Madrid have been fairly subdued in their start to the season, failing to win at home so far but they had Isco to thanks for a good three points against Espanyol.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the creator for Isco’s first goal, before the midfielder would finish off a good move involving Marco Asensio.

The visitors did have chances to get in the game through Gerard Moreno, but he found it hard to find his shooting boots, hitting the post following a Casemiro mistake.

The home side dominated the game throughout, but chances from the visitors still came as Marc Navarro came close in the second half.

Isco almost netted a hat-trick as he forced Pau Lopez into a good save, whilst Sergio Ramos came close with a header, which narrowly went over the crossbar.

The victory sees Real Madrid get themselves back to relatively good form, but they still sit seven points off league leaders and bitter rivals Barcelona, who beat Las Palmas 3-0 at the Camp Nou on Sunday.
