Lucas Perez facing spell on sidelines

Deportivo La Coruna forward Lucas Perez has been ruled out with a thigh injury, according to the club’s official website.

Perez picked up the injury towards the end of Depor’s 2-1 win over Getafe last weekend, and a diagnosis from club doctors has confirmed that he will now miss the next few weeks of action.

The club said via their website: “major bruising on his left quadriceps, causing a hematoma in the crural muscle.”

The 29-year-old returned to the Galician club this summer after a largely disappointing spell with Premier League side Arsenal, with whom he saw his number nine shirt taken and handed to new signing Alexandre Lacazette.

A one year loan spell back at the Riazor was highly welcomed by the club’s fans, whilst the Spanish striker also wanted the move.

Having scored against Getafe and forged a good partnership with Florin Andone, Perez will now leave boss Pepe Mel with just one option in the Romanian striker.

Depor return from the international break to face Eibar, hoping to gain a third win of the season, having beaten Getafe and Alaves.

Following the trip to Eibar, Mel’s side face Girona at home and then Las Palmas in the Copa del Rey.
