Osasuna beat Cadiz 2-0 on Saturday to force their way to the top of the Segunda Division.
Diego Martinez’s side proved too strong for Cadiz and should of had more goals if it had not been for Sergio Herrera, who remarkably saved three penalties.
Goals from Xisco and Ivan de Las Cuevas proved enough for the Pamplona side to sit top of the league by two points.
Elsewhere, Sporting Gijon and Huesca put pressure on the title contenders, beating Sevilla Atletico and Almeria by three goal margins.
Tenerife forced their way into the play-off places after a 2-0 victory over Nastic, but Cultural Leonesa dropped out of the top six after drawing with Catalan based Reus.
Sunday’s action saw Valladolid, Lugo and Numancia all lose and fail to put pressure on Osasuna.
Valladolid lost 4-1 to Rayo Vallecano, Lugo 2-0 at improving Granada and Numancia were well beaten by Real Zaragoza.
Six points now separates the top 13 sides in Segunda, whilst Zaragoza’s win sees them climb out of the relegation zone.
Cordoba also climb after beating Alcorcon 3-0, but Lorca find themselves in the relegation places after losing to fellow strugglers Albacete.
Barcelona B and Oviedostay in mid-table after they drew 1-1 later in the day.
