Former coach of Villarreal CF announced today feels hurt but insists he does not hold a grudge against the club.
Speaking to Radio Marca, Fran Escriba believes that it will be years until he will fully comprehend the decision. He refers to the fact that Villarreal finished in a decent 5th position which secured Europa League qualification.
However, one draw and three losses in the La Liga this year was enough for the board to sack him. The final nail in the coffin was the 4 nil loss away to Getafe.
The former manager stated that his relationship with the players remained in good terms. Some players even entered his office and left farewell notes for him.
The positive feelings were extended from Escriba to his successor, Javi Calleja too. “He knows the place and has a great staff too. There is nothing that makes me think that it will not turn out well”.
Escriba did mention though that he was offered a new contract before the end of last season which he rejected at the time. This may go some way to explaining why he feels betrayed by his dismissal so early in this campaign.
No comment was made with regards to his future so we shall wait and see what Escriba’s next move will be.
