Having failed in been given a fair chance under Diego Simeone, Theo Hernandez joined Los Blancos from cross town rivals Atletico Madrid for €26 million during the summer.
In the time that has since passed, his new teammates have been taken aback by the left back’s physical attributes. His ability to get up and down the line in support of his fellow attack minded players, has resulted in Theo being called ‘The Plane’.
The fact the left back is displaying such strong characteristics in pace and power at such a fragile age of 20 leads one to think what he will be like in another 6 years when he comes into peak condition.
After changing clubs during the summer, Real Madrid’s number 15 has also opted to change nationality from French to Spanish. This will add to the growing list of young Spanish players among the ranks in the capital with Theo eventually joining the likes of Marco Asensio, Borja Mayoral and Jesus Vallejo to name 3.
After coming back from a shoulder injury, ‘The Plane’ is available for selection once again. Facing up against Getafe at the weekend, it is the type of fixture the Frenchman would be hoping to get game time in. With Brazilian Marcelo pretty much owning the left back position in this team, Theo can only hope to feature in times of rotation – a concept Zidane has made his own since taking over from Rafa Benitez.
Going forward, Theo could not wish to have a better advisor than Marcelo. The Brazilian has consistently been regarded as the best left back in the world for years now. With him now being 29, as time goes on there will be more and more opportunities for Theo to ‘fly’.
