Athletic club’s young goalkeeper Kepa is continuing to be linked with Real Madrid with MARCA reporting today that Real Madrid have settled on the 23 year old as their new goalkeeper.
MARCA first broke the story in September, when Los Leones were still struggling to pinned down their recent homegrown star to a long term contract. The Basque club claimed that the young goalkeeper saw his future at the San Mames.
It has now been nearly a year since contract negotiations began and neither parties appear any closer to a deal. Kepa has now reportedly rejected a deal of 3 million per season with a release clause of 75 million euros. Kepa will be available to sign on a Bosman deal in January 2018. MARCA also reported that Los Blancos will not be deterred even if Kepa signs a new deal with his Basque employers.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was born in the small fishing town of Ondorra. The shot stopper developed a maturity beyond his years during time in Athletic Club’s famed youth academy, Lezama.
He has had two loan stints with Ponferradina and Real Valladolid respectively and made his first team debut with Los Leones in September last year in a 1-0 win against Deportivo. He has gone on to make nearly 30 league apperances for the Basques, keeping 10 clean sheets
