Getafe 1-2 Real Madrid: Ronaldo strike wins it for ZidaneOctober 15, 2017
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first league goal of the season to hand Real Madrid a 2-1 win over Getafe on Saturday afternoon.
Zinedine Zidane’s side were without the injured Gareth Bale, but they had Karim Benzema back and he fired them in the lead just before the break.
The home side always looked threatening though and they replied in the second half through veteran striker Jorge Molina, who slid the ball past stand-in keeper Kiko Casilla.
Ronaldo would then take charge as his effort from two yards was saved well, before Isco provided the assist for the Portuguese international to score his league goal of the season and secure all three points for the visitors.
The victory was Real’s four success win in all competitions and they gained two points on league leaders Barcelona, who were held to a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday evening.
The result seemingly ends Madrid’s poor run of form and stuttering start to the season, seeing them leapfrog both Sevilla and Valencia in the La Liga standings.
Real’s next match is on Tuesday when they entertain Tottenham in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Elsewhere, Real Sociedad beat Alaves 2-0 and Athletic Club gained a shock win over in-form Sevilla, beating Eduardo Berizzo’s side 1-0 at the new San Mames.
