Cheryshev ready to push on after returning to actionOctober 18, 2017
Denis Cheryshev managed to gain some valuable playing minutes at the weekend in the victory against Girona. He made his return to action in the 66th minute on Sunday.
Cheryshev barely played last season due to various injuries but is hoping these are now a thing of the past. Speaking in a press conference, Cheryshev has stated that every minute he gets on the field is precious.
The Russian winger also states that although he has been available for the first team in recent times, he admits that he has not been to a high enough physical level. Something he is keen press on with. He acknowledged that the teams recent improvement in form is a positive for him too.
Villarreal play Slavia Prague in the Europa League on Thursday at the Estadio de la Ceramica and manager Javi Calleja is expected to rotate the squad. When Cheryshev was questioned regarding this, he responded diplomatically. “The starting team depends on the coach. I am ready but the decision is his”.
When pushed on his thoughts regarding the Europa League, he said that it is very exciting and the club will be taking the competition very seriously. Should Villarreal win against Slavia Prague, they will lead group A at the halfway stage with 7 points which will give them an excellent chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages.
Cheryshev also offered his thoughts on new manager Javi Calleja. “Calleja is a very demanding coach, we are working well and with great desire and intensity, so I think things will go well”.
Speaking of his chances of making the Russian World Cup squad, Cheryshev said “I do not think about the World Cup right now, it’s a dream for any player. It’s true that i’ve been injured for a long time. I have to focus on my team, if I do things right here I can have options to go to the World Cup.”
