It was a record breaking night for Real Sociedad as they beat Vardar 6-0 in the Europa League, whilst Villarreal and Athletic Club were held to draws.

Mikel Oyarzbal and William San Jose were crucial in Real Sociedad 6-0 away win against Vardar last night. Oyarzbal opened the scoring from a corner before setting up the first of San Jose’s four goals.

The pick of the bunch was a long range effort from outside the box nestling in the goalkeepers near post.

Sociedad remain second in the group due to their defeat to Zenit last gameweek. They now host Vardar in the return fixure

La Real’s crosstown rivals Athletic Club had contrasting fortunes, drawing 2-2 with monnows Ostersunds.

Despite being peppered by shots, Adruiz opened the scoring from a goalkeeper mistake. It was another mistake that allowed the hosts back into the game before a terrific volley saw Ostersunds take the lead.

Destined for defeat, Iniaki Williams came off the bench to score a late equaliser. A mere two points at the halfway stage, Los Leones are four points away from the knockout stages. A now crucial date with Ostersunds awaits for the Basques.

A first half comeback saw Villarreal draw 2-2 with Slavia Prague at home. The visitors scored two goals in the opening 30 minutes.
