Villarreal striker Cedric Bakambu will look to continue his rich vein of scoring form on Sunday afternoon when his side welcome La Liga strugglers Las Palmas to the Estadio de la Ceramica.
The DR Congo international has banged in five goals in his last two games against Girona and Eibar as Villarreal picked up six points to move up to eighth in the table.
The visitors on the other hand have had a torrid time of things picking up just six points from eight games and currently sit in the bottom three. Their poor run continued on Monday night when ten man Celta Vigo hammered them 5-2 in Gran Canaria.
The last meeting between the two teams in Castellon saw the goal of the season in La Liga last year when Kevin Prince Boateng finished off a sumptuous team attack with a fantastic overhead kick. Unfortunately for him and Las Palmas however, they went on to lose 2-1. They did win the return game 1-0 though.
Las Palmas midfielder Momo confessed that he and his teammates need to work together as a team, rather than individuals, “There are indivduals who are good but the important thing is to try to be a block.”
He also said how the players were aware of what they need to do, “The mood is more important than football at the moment. We have to enter into positive dynamics to change the situation.”
The hosts will remain without long term absentees Andres Fernandez, Sergio Asenjo, Bruno Soriano, Adrian Marin and Rubén Semedo for the match as they look for their third league victory on the trot.
Las Palmas are missing Alen Halilovic for Sunday’s game but have no other injuries or suspensions.
