Monday evening’s La Liga action saw Girona secure their first away win of the season after they beat Deportivo La Coruna 2-1 at the Riazor.
Aday Benitez broke the deadlock for the away side with a penalty midway through the first half, but former Arsenal man Lucas Perez scored from 12 yards just after the break.
The winning goal came from Cristian Portu, who struck 19 minutes before full-time to secure all three points and move his side up to 15th in the standings.
In the other Monday evening fixture, Real Sociedad and Espanyol played out a 1-1 draw at the Anoeta.
Asier Illarramendi was in the thick of the action as he scored his first goal for La Real before being sent off.
Quique Sanchez Flores’ side looked set for their first away win of the season and had hoped to move up in to the top ten of the La Liga standings, but they were pegged back by the home side.
Leo Baptistao opened the scoring when he gained space inside the six yard box and headed in on nine minutes, after good work from Jose Manuel Jurado.
Former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj was pulling the strings for the home side and he was instrumental as the Basque’s levelled through Illarramendi.
The former Real Madrid midfielder would then see his celebrations turn sour as he picked up a second booking late on to receive his marching orders from the referee.
