Valencia boss Marcelino has praised his side’s commitment following their 2-1 win over Alaves on Saturday afternoon.
Re-wind yourself back to the start of the season and you would not of imagined Valencia to be sat in second place in the La Liga standings.
But, a 2-1 victory over Alaves ensured they remained their for another round of fixtures, thanks to goals from Simone Zaza and Rodrigo.
Italian international Zaza lashed home in the ninth minute to score a goal which was his ninth in the league, whilst Spanish international Rodrigo smashed home the winner from the penalty spot in the second half.
Central defender Alexis scored for the home side, who are now sat in 19th place – four points from safety, just above Malaga.
Valencia, who sit second behind league leaders Barcelona remain have now won seven out of ten and remain one of three unbeaten sides in La Liga, including Barca and Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
And, boss Marcelino has praised his squad for their impressive start to the season.
“I would like to thank and of course, congratulate the players.” he told reporters post match.
“Even in these games, we have shown our highly competitive edge. We weren’t expecting to gain so many points and remain unbeaten.
“It’s thanks to the great work from these players, I’ve got a really committed bunch.”
Elsewhere, Barca beat Athletic Bilbao on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Paulinho, with the former netting his 12th league goal of the season, whilst Atleti were held to a 1-1 draw with Villarreal.
