Olympiacos defender Alberto Botia entered the Barcelona dressing to confront Lionel Messi during Tuesday evening’s Champions League clash, according to reports.
As reported in Marca, Botia and Messi had a heated battle on the field that left the latter upset with a number of challenges from the Spanish central defender.
Images from Jugones de La Sexta show Messi and Botia speaking to each other during the game, whilst Marca report that Messi was heard saying: “No, now that’s not worth it, first the first and now the second, then you come to the dressing room, then you tell me off.”
Messi’s reaction came after a shove and kick off the ball during the 0-0 fixture in Greece.
Botia, who began his career with Barcelona – left the Catalan club in 2009 for Sporting Gijon, where he find regular playing time until 2012 when he would join Sevilla.
Two seasons and minimal appearances with the Andalusian side saw him shipped out on loan to Elche, before a permanent move materialised to Olympiacos.
Now, captain of the Greek champions, Botia is an ever present in the starting eleven at the club.
Valverde’s side failed to get past a stern Olympiacos on Tuesday evening, despiteSuarez hitting the crossbar and Lionel Messi coming close.
Barca now have one foot in the last-32 of the Champions League, having remained unbeaten in their opening four group games.
The Catalan side will now prepare to face Sevilla on the weekend, hoping to maintain their lead at the top of the La Liga table.
