Tottenham Hotspur forward Dele Alli has said he is not surprised by his side’s 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Heading into the game, Madrid had lost to Girona at the weekend and fell eight points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Despite their poor form, the reigning European and La Liga champions remained favourites in the competition.

Spurs, who have been excellent this season with Harry Kane scoring nine goals in all competitions.

Dele Alli opened the scoring for the hosts as Mauricio Pochettino’s men outplayed the visitors in all areas of the pitch.

The second half continued with much of the same as Alli was again testing the Madrid resolve.

And, the impressive winger made it 2-0 with a long range effort which deflected in off Sergio Ramos.

Madrid looked shocked and it would soon be 3-0 to the English side as Christian Eriksen for himself a much deserved goal.

Fully in the driving seat, Pochettino’s side then took their foot off the pedal and allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to get his sixth goal of the competition.

“It was a fantastic display by us,” the English international told BT Sport.

“We knew if we stuck to our gameplan and were solid at back then we’d get chances. We’re very happy with the result.

“I wasn’t surprised [we were dominant]. We couldn’t believe how much space we had at the Bernabeu.

“We don’t want to just compete with these teams we want to beat them. I’m happy to get two goals but more importantly it was a win.”

The goal proved to be a consolation and Spurs held on to win and qualify for the last-32.
