Celta Vigo 3-1 Athletic Club: Aspas adds to Ziganda’s Woes

Its going to be a long international break for Athletic Club manager as his team lost 3-1 to Celta, slipping closer to the relegation zone.

It was an embarrassing first half for Los Leones as they shipped in all three goals in the first half an hour. Sergi Gomez scored the first and his first in La Liga from an indirect free kick.

Iago Aspas then capitalised on a mistake from the youngster Santiago Nunez to make it 2-0. Nunez was then partly at fault Celta’s third getting beaten to Sisto cross by Aspas. The Celta front man has now scored six in his last four games.

Raul Garica stunning volley gave a slither of hope to the travelling support, but, Ziganda’s men once again failed to make the most of their chances as they asserted themselves in the second half. Celta were quite lucky on a few occassions, Ruben Blanco clearing Laporte’s header off the line and Nunez heading wide from a free kick.

The hosts, however were well worth their 3-1 win and now momentarily join Real Sociedad in mid table.¬† Its Athletic’s first loss at the Balaidos in 13 years and they are now five points above the relegation zone.

The international break now gives the Athletic board time to consider wether they have the right man for the job.
