De Ligt chooses to stay in Holland

Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt will not leave the club in the January transfer window, according to his agent.

Recent links with a move to La Liga with both Barcelona and Valencia linked have seen the youngster’s future in Holland come under scrutiny.

However, in an attempt to quash such rumours – De Ligt’s agent Barry Hulshoff has told Ziggo Sport that his client: “Will remain at Ajax at least until next summer.”

The 18-year-old burst on to the scene last term, making 23 appearances for the Dutch giants and his form not only gained interest from a number of clubs, but – international recognition, making his senior debut for his country at the age of 17.

Whilst Valencia’s interest has only been a mention, Barcelona have been heavily linked.

The Catalan club will look to bolster a number of positions in the January transfer window and have been actively scouting a number of options.

Technical secretary Robert Fernandez was in attendance to watch Cesar Azpilicueta as Chelsea beat Manchester United a fortnight ago, whilst interest in Philippe Coutinho is also gaining a similar pace to that of the summer when the Brazilian almost arrived at Camp Nou.
