Griezmann’ €100m deal to Barcelona almost agreed…November 15, 2017
Barcelona have reached a ‘principle of agreement’ with Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, according to reports.
Rewind back to the summer and the long talked about return of Diego Costa was the main talking point around the Wanda Metropolitano but in the background remained little whispers on the future of French international Griezmann.
La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid made tentative contact over a potential move, whilst Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea were also linked.
The former have been keen on bringing the former Real Sociedad man to Old Trafford for sometime with boss Jose Mourinho a big admirer, whilst Stamford Bridge officials are also keen, having lost Costa in that aforementioned transfer.
But it now seems Barcelona are favourites after a report in Le10Sport claims that a deal has been reached in principle between the Frenchman and the Catalan club.
Griezmann is experiencing his worst form in an Atleti shirt and perhaps in La Liga since his arrival back in 2005.
The 26-year-old has not scored for Diego Simeone’s side since the 27th of September when he netted against Chelsea in the Champions League, whilst his last league goal came four days previous against Sevilla.
Reflecting on those figures, it is fair to elaborate on Atleti’s form, picking on the fact they have drawn five of their last seven games.
But question marks are now hanging over Griezmann’s future and the pending arrival of Costa, whose physical and dynamic approach will change the Atleti style and line-up, if only slightly.
A dip in form for the Frenchman is similar to that of Barcelona’s Luis Suarez and Real Madrid duo Cristiano Ronaldo, making it less familiar with watching La Liga fans.
Whilst a move next summer looks more likely, it is expected that a number of big transfers will happen in January.
