Premier League champions Chelsea are said to be interested in a January move for Villarreal midfielder Manu Trigueros.
Chelsea are looking to add strength to their midfield after struggling with injuries in the last month and Trigueros could be top of Antonio Conte’s list, according to Read Chelsea.
Trigueros has become a key part of the Villarreal midfield since making his debut in 2012, making more than 150 appearances.
The playmaker is renowned for his talent of keeping possession and finding key passes from midfield and his form in the last year or so has seen him attract interest from Europe.
Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus are also said to be interested, meaning Chelsea could have a battle on their hands if they want to lure him to London.
However, those clubs will also be aware that Trigueros has a release clause of €40 million with his current deal still having five years remaining.
The 26-year-old is hopeful that he can find a way into Spain’s World Cup squad for next summer, but it will prove to be a difficult task.
A move to one of Europe’s elite may help him achieve that, but remaining at Estadio de la Ceramica, near the eyes of Julen Lopetegui will also be something to consider.
Trigueros has been with El Submarino since he was a teenager and it would surely take a special offer for him to depart, especially being a fan favourite.
The midfielder would also be walking into a squad with plenty of competition with the likes of Bakayoko, Fabregas and Kante. He is currently one of the first names on the team sheet with Villarreal.
However, Villarreal have developed something of a reputation for selling their best players over the years and Chelsea certainly have the financial power to make a deal happen.
