Manchester United keeper David De Gea has warned Athletic Bilbao keeper Kepa not to get carried away by reports linking him with a move away from the club.
Long have Madrid been keen admirers of the young Basque stopper and it now seems that the Bernabeu club will look to make a move in the January transfer window.
Whilst current number one Keylor Navas has been performing well; Madrid officials have been interested in a number of options who they feel can provide a long-term option.
Man United’s De Gea now seems to a long shot with his future at the English club firmly rooted, leaving Kepa as the next option.
Further interest has come from a number of European clubs, and De Gea has weighed in with comments, telling his Spanish international team-mate to remain calm and think about his future.
“When a player leaves Spain, sometimes you are a little bit forgotten about,” De Gea told a press conference.
“It is not as easy for us to be followed and monitored as those who are playing at home, in La Liga, and you cannot forget that.
“Kepa is still young and he will have a long and successful career, that is all in front of him but his head is in the right place to succeed.
“He trains at an extremely high level and keeps growing after every game, all the national team goalkeepers do and we are here to help Spain.”
Madrid’s keeper worries have continued of late with Keylor Navas on the sidelines for this weekend’s clash with Atletico Madrid after failing to recover in time from his hamstring injury, meaning Kiko Casilla will play in goal.
Madrid have picked themselves up after a poor start to the La Liga season, having now won four consecutive league games since the defeat to Real Betis last month and they will be looking to further improve when they meet Diego Simeone’s side at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Elsewhere, league leaders Barcelona will travel to Leganes looking to further break away from Valencia and Madrid.
