Abel Resino has called on Atletico Madrid to help Antoine Griezmann find his form after not scoring a league goal since September.
The 26-year-old has not scored for Diego Simeone’s side since the 27th of September when he netted against Chelsea in the Champions League, whilst his last league goal came four days previous against Sevilla.
And, former keeper and coach Resino has called on the Wanda Metropolitano club to help the Frenchman return to his goal scoring exploits.
“Griezmann is a unique player for Atletico, and now that he’s underperforming, they need to make sure he returns to the player we all know he can be,” Resino said in an interview with Reuters.
“Atletico don’t have the luxury of allowing him to drop off. They have to recover his level because he’s a top player, one that makes the difference.”
Rewind back to the summer and the long talked about return of Diego Costa was the main talking point around the Wanda Metropolitano but in the background remained little whispers on the future of French international Griezmann.
La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid made tentative contact over a potential move, whilst Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea were also linked.
The former have been keen on bringing the former Real Sociedad man to Old Trafford for sometime with boss Jose Mourinho a big admirer, whilst Stamford Bridge officials are also keen, having lost Costa in that aforementioned transfer.
But it now seems Barcelona are favourites after a report in Le10Sport claims that a deal has been reached in principle between the Frenchman and the Catalan club.
Griezmann is experiencing his worst form in an Atleti shirt and perhaps in La Liga since his arrival back in 2005.
