Rumours that “The Best” might soon be leaving the comfort of Madrid are making headlines across the globe. Although Ronaldo has only scored one La Liga goal so far this season, his ability is unquestionable. If he departs Real Madrid next summer it would be a real blow for Los Blancos.

There are a number of reasons that it is suggested Ronaldo is leaving. He has actually said himself that after his contract ends in four years he does not want to sign a new deal. However, reports from El Chiringuito de Jugones are that the Portuguese international wants to leave early and transfer out of the club during the summer. There are three key reasons that Ronaldo might be really be planning to move elsewhere.

He’s upset the club is pursuing other strikers

He was upset that the club was pursuing Mbappe during the last summer transfer window. According to the Express, Ronaldo begged club President Florenino Perez not to sign the youngster. It was claimed that Ronaldo was afraid that the arrival of the 18-year-old would hamper his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or in the future.

There were rumours this season that Real Madrid might also make a 200-million euro bid for Tottenham star Harry Kane. According to Diario Gol, Ronaldo put a stop to this claiming that Kane was not good enough after the Champions League match at Wembley.

Now, gossip is running wild that the world’s most expensive footballer might be coming to Madrid next season. According to El Chiringuito de Jugones, Neymar is the club’s main target for the summer transfer window albeit his 222-million-euro release clause.

Needless to say, with Ronaldo’s current poor goal scoring form, he feels that his place in the team could be threatened with the arrival of another world class striker.

He feels undervalued

Ronaldo is one of the highest paid football players in the world at 21 million euros per year. However, compared with the 40 million made by Messi and the 35 million Neymar is now earning at PSG, Ronaldo feels undervalued.

The club reportedly made an offer to improve the Portuguese international’s contract, but that Ronaldo did not feel it was in line with what he is worth. Apparently, Ronaldo has already informed the club President of his decision and asked to be able to leave the club for a reasonable fee. Ronaldo’s current release clause is a staggering one billion euros.

He has issues with his teammates

Reports have said that Ronaldo and Ramos have been feuding these months. In particular, about the club’s recruitment policy. Cristiano had mentioned that the problems at Los Blancos are due to the summer sales of Morata, Pepe and Rodriguez. Ramos then labelled Ronaldo an “opportunist” and said publicly that he disagreed with Ronaldo’s view.

Earlier this month, Isco scored a goal against Las Palmas from a Ronaldo cross. Metro reported that Isco’s decision not to celebrate with Ronaldo upset the Portuguese international. Apparently, Ronaldo was angry to not get enough credit for the goal. According to Zidane,

“Everyone has their opinion. The important thing is that things are resolved inside (the club) and it is all resolved.”

There are other potential reasons that Ronaldo would choose to leave Real Madrid, such as his mounting tax woes. He has been defending himself against claims that he avoided 14.7 million euros worth of tax. The star said that the claims have only arisen because, “he’s Cristiano Ronaldo.”

At any rate, there is still a long season to go until fans learn if Ronaldo really will be leaving or not. But, unless Ronaldo improves his goal scoring rate, leaving Real Madrid might be the least of his problems.
