Valencia forward Simone Zaza hopes to be fit to face Barcelona in the top of the table clash at the Mestalla on Sunday night.
The Italian forward picked up a knee injury while on international duty with his country and spent last Sunday’s 2-0 win at Espanyol on the bench.
The club made the decision not to operate on the striker and he has taken part in training this week despite still feeling discomfort albeit pausing at times to have words with club doctor Luis Silvestre.
He also remained behind after training with Ruben Vezo and Jaume Domenech for some extra shooting practice which can of course only be seen as a positive for manager Marcelino and the Valencia fans.
Zaza currently sits on nine goals for the season, just three behind Lionel Messi in an early race for the Pichichi and will hope to catch up on the Barca forward if they clash on Sunday night.
The manager however has said that he will look to reinforce his attacking options in the transfer window in case the injury continues to disrupt Zaza meaning an operation would be required.
He also hopes to pick up a midfielder and a “battering ram” when the January window rolls around.
A player who will miss out however is centre back Jeison Murillo who has left to receive treatment on an unnamed injury. Serbian midfielder Nemanja Maksimovic is a doubt for the game after he withdrew from training on Monday with a back problem.
