Courtois linked with sensational Atletico Madrid returnNovember 23, 2017
As Jan Oblak remains one of the most sought after goalkeepers in European football, rumours continue to spread of the Slovenian stopper sealing a transfer away from the Wanda Metropolitano.
Spanish newspaper AS have reported that although Oblak is happy at Atleti and has told the club that he will renew his contract at the end of the season, his agent has been in contact with both Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
Atletico expect to retain their Number One, and the keeper currently has a buy-out clause in his contract standing at £89million, however last summer’s transfer market showed big teams are willing to pay whatever is required to land their top targets.
AS write that a potential replacement for Oblak is Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian is no stranger to Los Colchoneros supporters, having spent three seasons on loan from the English club.
He was part of the La Liga winning side in 2014 before returning to Stamford Bridge and prizing the number one jersey away from team mate, Petr Cech.
The 25 year old was vocal last summer about his desire for a new contract with the London side but has been unable to reach an agreement, and Sky Sports have today (22nd November) reported that he has put off further talks over an extension until the summer.
Like Oblak, Courtois has been the subject of transfer rumours, and was tipped to replace Kaylor Navas at Real Madrid, however the Costa Rican’s form has continued to improve for Los Blancos that they decided not to pursue another goalkeeper.
