Espanyol youngster Aaron Martin has expressed his delight at the interest from Manchester United.
Having brought in Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy over the summer transfer window, City boss Pep Guardiola was seemingly happy with his defensive options but an injury to the latter and an admiration of Martin have seen the English club linked with a winter move.
Martin has been firmly impressing at left-back for the Barcelona-based side and has gained high recognition from a number of potential suitors, which also include City’s rivals Manchester United.
Catalan daily Sport claim that City are now ready to move for the 20-year-old and have completed their scouting reports, whilst United are in touch with the Spanish club and the youngster has touched on the interest:
“The interest from other teams it flattering,” Martin told a press conference.
“But the truth is I am only thinking of Espanyol and I am very happy to be here, I feel that I am improving here and I enjoy helping my teammates.
“It’s important for me to play every week and to help the team, to keep pushing myself to improve as a player in the top league.
“My rise into the first-team has not changed me as a person, I like to keep m feet on the ground and continue to improve.”
Born in the Montmelo region of Catalonia, Martin began his career with his birthplace’s club before arriving at Espanyol at the age of eight.
His development saw him move up through the ranks of the club and senior debut with the B side against Gimnastic in 2015.
A season with the lower league side saw him gain recognition from the first team and he was handed a debut a year later against Villarreal, signing a new and improved deal until 2022 just days later.
The full-back has been capped at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 level for the Spanish national side.
