Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Paris Saint Germain defender Thomas Meunier, according to France Football.
Diego Simeone has been on the hunt for a new right-back after seeing normally reliant defender Juanfran struggle and Sime Vrsaljko fail to hit the heights that were expected.
The Croatian defender is set to leave the Wanda Metropolitano in January after gaining interest from Premier League side Arsenal and Italian side Napoli and, it is all-but confirmed after he told club officials to allow him to leave.
And, Simeone has identified Meunier as a the perfect replacement after scouting him over a number of weeks.
The club’s FIFA transfer ban comes to an end in January and Simeone is keen to add the PSG defender, along with Diego Costa, who signed in the summer and Vitolo, who has been a short term loan with Las Palmas.
Meunier was first choice last term with the Ligue 1 side but has since lost his place to the experience of Dani Alves and the Belgian international is said to be keen on finding first team football elsewhere.
The 26-year-old has started just six Ligue 1 games this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
Discussions are now said be on the verge as a January effort to bring him to La Liga looks extremely likely.
