Numancia shock Malaga as Fuenla hold Los Blancos- Copa Del Rey Round UpNovember 28, 2017
La Liga 1|2|3 side Numancia stunned La Liga Malaga with a 1-1 draw at La Rosaleda sealing a 3-1 aggregate victory.
They fell behind to the Primera side on 19 minutes when Adrian Gonzalez directed Jony’s cross into the bottom corner of the net. He should have added his second minutes later but headed straight at the goalkeeper.
The home side were pegged back on 53 minutes though when Dani Nieto’s free kick was headed home by Unai Elgezabal leaving Malaga needing two goals to progress.
They had their chances too, Juanpi went clean through but was only able to shoot straight at the keeper with Borja Baston then somehow managing to nod wide from 8 yards out.
Despite their constant pressing the hosts weren’t even able to force extra time and Numancia earned their place in the next round.
Real Madrid were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw against third tier Fuenlabrada at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The much changed Madrid side were stunned on 25 minutes when Luis Milla took a shot from distance which via a combination of Keylor Navas and the crossbar found its way into the net.
Los Blancos were reduced to taking shots from distance for most of the half and struggled to break down a resolute Fuenla side.
Just past the hour mark however, they would pull themselves level. Gareth Bale had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes when he delivered a fantastic cross with the outside of his left foot right onto the head of Borja Mayoral who nodded off the crossbar and into the back of the net.
Seven minutes later and Mayoral had his second, slotting home after Bale had seen his shot saved.
Fuenlabrada would have the last say however as Alvaro Portilla smashed home from 10 yards at the second attempt after Casilla had saved his first effort.
A well earned draw for the Segunda B side who will remember this game for the rest of their lives but it was Real who progressed 4-2 on aggregate.
Levante also booked their place in the last 16, beating Girona 3-1 on aggregate.
Leading 2-0 from the first leg, the home side fell behind on 33 minutes when Johan Mojica finished off Marlos Moreno’s cross from close range.
The Catalan visitors pressed forward in search of a second goal to take the tie to extra time but Levante caught them on the break with Jose Morales finishing off Samu Garcia’s pass.
Elsewhere, Celta Vigo sneaked past Eibar 1-0 on the night due to a last minute penalty from Iago Aspas after he had been brought down by Dmitrovic in the Eibar goal, that tie finishing 3-1 on aggregate
Leganes won 1-0 against Segunda side Real Valladolid at the Butarque thanks to Tito’s header from Raul Garcia’s free kick. This was another 3-1 aggregate scoreline thanks to Leganes 2-1 win away from home in the first leg
