Both Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Segunda B sides on a dramatic night in Spain.
Real Sociedad had a 1-0 lead from the first leg and lead 2-0 at half time tonight thanks to a Diego Llorente header and Juanmi strike.
Their third tier opponents wouldn’t lie down though and pulled one back on 56 minutes through Aitor Nunez. Three minutes later and Manuel Molina brought them level from the penalty spot after Tono’s foul.
Lleida completed the comeback on 87 minutes with Bohan Radulovic heading home to send the minnows through on away goals.
Athletic Bilbao were also knocked out thanks to a last gasp goal too, courtesy of Alvaro Muniz who headed home a 95th minute corner to the dismay of the San Mames crowd.
Level at 1-1 from the first leg in Ibiza, Athletic looked destined for the round of 16 but became the third big name side to be knocked out by lower league opposition after Malaga and Real Sociedad.
Barcelona were comfortable 5-0 winners at home to Real Murcia. Paco Alcacer opening the scoring on 17 minutes nodding home a defensive mistake.
It took them until the 56th minute for goal two, Gerard Pique stroking home Aleix Vidal’s cutback. Vidal made it three just three minutes later with a lovely looping header from Nelson Semedo’s cross.
Denis Suarez got number four after a lovely one two with Sergi Roberto and number five came courtesy of a strike on the angle from youngster Jose Arnaiz.
Sevilla defeated Cartagena 7-0 on aggregate after an exciting win at home at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan
Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice in the opening six minutes first finding the net via the post before tapping home his second from a yard out.
Ganso’s deflected strike from 15 yards gave the hosts a 3-0 lead at the break.
Cartagena then missed three fantastic opportunities to get back in the game but Joaquin Correa added number four on 66 minutes finishing well inside the box.
Atlético Madrid made light work of Elche at the Wanda Metropolitano with a Fernando Torres double and a Jose Maria Gimenez header giving them a 3-0 win.
Gimenez’s close range header came on 31 minutes with Torres making it 2-0 two minutes later, tucking home the rebound after Yannick Carrasco’s shot had been saved.
Torres made the win certain just over 20 minutes from time, controlling Sime Vrsaljko’s pass before finding the net via the bar.
Elsewhere, Las Palmas earned their place in the next round despite a 3-2 defeat at home to Deportivo La Coruna.
Emre Colak put the Galicians ahead before half time before Borja Valle added a second on 53 minutes.
Hernan Toledo found the bottom corner four minutes later to bring Las Palmas back into it but with 10 minutes to go Valle’s deflected strike left Depor needing one more to force extra time.
They were however caught on the break with Loic Remy finishing off a slick move.
