Atletico Madrid staged a crucial comeback at the Wanda Metropolitano, defeating Real Sociedad 2-1 thanks to a late winner from Antoine Griezmann.
It had looked to be heading for a dissapointing draw in Madrid until Frenchman Griezmann popped up with a late goal to close the gap on league leaders Barcelona, who drew with Celta de Vigo earlier today.
It wasnt all smooth sailing for Los Rojiblancos with Sociedad having some decent chances to score in the opening half. Oblak was caught in no man’s land twice early in the game, conceding a penalty the second time as he fouled Mikel Oyarzabal. William San Jose slotted home the spot kick, punishing Atleti’s number one for his error.
Atletico blew a number of chances at the equaliser with Angel Correa’s miss the pick of the bunch. Koke played the foward clear on goal with Rulli out of position and Correa fired over.
The equaliser came in the form of a strange Saul cross that found Luis who tucked it away. Atleti had the momentum and continued to threaten, but, it took pratically the last kick of the game before they could find the winner. Another cross looped over Rulli for a waiting Griezmann to tap home.
Atleti close the gap to six while Sociedad slip to seventh with the chance falling further down the table should results go against them Sunday.
