It could be one of the most controversial transfer deals in history, but Luis Suarez has dismissed claims that his former team-mate Neymar could head to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain after a far from perfect start to life in Ligue Un.
Clashes with team-mates and manager Unai Emery, as well as a poor disciplinary record of five yellow cards and a red in just 12 league games, have sparked speculation.
Luis Suarez though, feels that he could not make such a move due to his links to his former club. He told MARCA that he didn’t believe that the Brazilian would betray the Catalan club by joining their arch rivals.
“Honestly, I don’t see it. I know what Neymar is like and the admiration he had for Barcelona and his teammates. I don’t see him now going to play for Real Madrid,” he said.
However, it was clear for all to see that he was not entirely in agreement with his move away from the Camp Nou.
He admitted that no such move could be easy, confessing, “surely he made it with a lot of pain because he was happy here.”
“But, we all have to accept that he was thinking of other challenges and that he wanted to take them on.”
Some had speculated in the summer that Suarez had helped Neymar to get in touch with his now strike partner Edinson Cavani. Suarez rubbished those claims, saying “that’s not something I would do.”
