The Copa del Rey draw was conducted earlier today in the RFEF headquarters in Madrid with Celta Vigo vs Barcelona the standout tie.
The two sides met on Saturday in an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou and have now been drawn against each other in the last 16 of the cup. Barca defeated Real Murcia with Celta getting past Eibar in the last 32.
Real Madrid will face Segunda side Numancia who shocked La Liga Malaga in the previous round winning 3-2 on aggregate. Los Blancos made many changes in both games against third tier Fuenlabrada in the last round and were given a scare by the minnows in the second leg, a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu. Real got through 4-2 on aggregate however after a 2-0 win in the first leg.
Real’s city rivals Atletico were also handed a tie against a lower league club in the shape of third tier Lleida Esportiu. The Segunda B side came from behind to beat Real Sociedad 3-2 in the second leg of their last 32 tie to scrape through on away goals in one of the shocks of the round.
Formentera were another side who caused a shock as they knocked out Athletic Bilbao with a 95th minute header in the second leg at the San Mames and their reward is a clash with last year’s runners up Alaves, who got past Getafe in the last round.
The fourth non La Liga side in the draw were Cadiz who defeated Real Betis 6-5 on aggregate in a crazy tie in the last round and they have now been drawn against Betis’s rivals Sevilla.
Theree are also three all La Liga clashes in the next round with Leganes taking on Villarreal, Las Palmas meeting Valencia and Espanyol clashing with Levante.
The two legged ties will take place on the midweek of the third of January with the second legs a week later.
