Relegation battle at the Mendizorroza as Alaves take on Las Palmas

Jornada 15 in La Liga kicks off on Friday night in Vitoria as 18th placed Las Palmas travel to face 19th placed Alaves.

Both sides picked up crucial wins in their early season fight for survival last weekend to overtake a Malaga side who are now rooted to the bottom of La Liga.

Alaves staged a wonderful late fightback at Girona on Monday night as a 20 minute Ibai Gomez hat-trick earned them a 3-2 win to move within one point of Las Palmas who had defeated Real Betis 1-0, 24 hours earlier.

Both of last season’s meetings between the two sides in La Liga finished 1-1 however a result like that tonight would do neither side any favours as they look to claw their way to safety.

Alaves will have to contend without Carlos Vigaray, Ruben Sobrino, Hector Hernandez and Rodrigo Ely as well as long term absentee Victor Laguardia for tonight’s game.

Visitors Las Palmas also have a lengthy injury list with many first choice players missing out. Alen Halilovic, Momo, David Simon, Pedro Bigas and Tana will all sit this one out with Vitolo likely to have played his last game for the club through injury with his January move to Atlético Madrid coming up.
