Levante 1-2 Athletic Bilbao: Basque’s back to winning ways in Valencia

December 10, 2017 Off By Alex Hammond-Gilles

Athletic Bilbao got their first win in nearly two months in Valencia, after beating Levante UD 2-1 at the Estadi Ciutat De Valencia.

In an encounter which had a history for producing goals, it only took five minutes for the first one to go in, and it was via the penalty spot. Raul Garcia’s squared ball across goal presented Oscar De Marcos with a clear goal-scoring opportunity, but he was bought down by Ivan Lopez. It was the 36-year-old, veteran striker Aritz Aduriz who converted, despite Oier getting a finger-tip touch.

Levante began to dominate proceedings and were nearly level after Emmanuel Boateng’s header, which forced Kepa into an impressive, quick, reflex save.

Levante found their deserved equaliser after 73 minutes, although it did require assistance from Bilbao’s defender Aymeric Laporte, as Ivi’s low cross, intended for Enes Unal was cut out by Laporte, but unfortunately for the Frenchman, the ball ended up into the roof of Los Leones’ net.

But, only 6 minutes later, Bilbao were ahead again, and this time, they had a favour returned by Levante. A low cross from the left hand side, which didn’t seem too threatening was put into the Levante net by Levante defender Sergio Postigo.
