Paul Pogba rejected Real Madrid and returned to the Manchester United as the World’s most expensive footballer in 2016. Man United’s number six reveals why he decided to shun the current European champions.
Having spent four years with Juventus where he improved significantly with the likes of Pirlo, Vidal and Marchisio supporting him. Pogba had the option to join any number of top clubs in Europe with PSG, Real Madrid and Man United chasing him.
It was the Spanish club who were linked most with the former La Harve academy in the summer of 2016. Florentino Perez’s well known to sign star players and buff out the team with youth graduates. Signing Pogba at the time would have been on trend.
Pogba himself has revealed to Beyond the Pitch podcast: “To be honest, I’m being honest with you, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there; and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too.”
“But I always felt in my heart – my heart told me to come back here. I don’t know why, I didn’t know what was going to happen, but I did it, and I don’t regret. I never regret my choice.”
After Pogba rejected Real Madrid and joined the 20 time English Champions, he has added a much needed quality to a team still in transition from the Ferguson era. Injuries this season have restricted the 24 year old to 11 appearances in all competitions this season. He has managed to score three and provide a further six assists in that time however.
With the Spanish champions struggling at times this season, the fact Paul Pogba rejected Real Madrid and is currently playing so well must sting a little bit. Facing into a potential Club World Cup final on Saturday, Los Blancos certainly won’t have Pogba on the mind.
