Roma sporting director Monchi has ruled out the chance of Hector Moreno leaving for Real Betis in January.
The Mexican defender is seemingly available in January after failing to gain regular playing time in Serie A with Roma, starting just two games since his arrival in the summer from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
The 29-year-old is no stranger to Spanish football, having played 135 times for Espanyol and impressing during a four-year spell.
His ability and impression has not been forgotten but Setien and reports in Andalusian media claim that a move is now on the cards.
Sevilla ABC claim that Los Verdiblancos will guarantee the central defender a starting place, picking up on the fact that the defender wants first team football in preparation for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
However, the potential of a move now seems to have been ruled out by Roma chief Monchi, who said to El Desmarque:
“There’s no chance of Moreno leaving Roma in January.”
Betis have been more than entertaining this season, but their defensive problems have continued with the club conceding 26 goals in 10 games, averaging 2.6 goals per game.
Current defensive pair Jordi Amat and Alin Tosca are struggling for form, making a possible arrival of Moreno a big plus for Setien as he pushes for a European place in the latter half of the season.
